John Friel

HENNEPIN —áJohn Michael Friel, 62, of Hennepin passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

He was born Feb. 3, 1955, in Dixon to Donald and Dorothy (Oester) Friel.

He was a carpenter by trade. He loved to hunt, fish and play cards. He loved to tease his nieces and nephews, especially his godchild, Jordyn Friel.

He is survived by six brothers, Delmar Friel of Princeton, Donald (Sandra) Friel of Tiskilwa, Gerald Friel of Tiskilwa, Robert (Susan) Friel of Tiskilwa, David Friel of Tiskilwa and Stephen Friel of Princeton; seven sisters, Elizabeth Potts of Dixon, Margarite Kuchenbecker of Frankfurt, Rosie Woodyatt of Fulton, Karen (Jerry) O’Neill of Tiskilwa, Regina Kunde of Dixon, Barbara (Jay) Perry of Tiskilwa and Carolyn (Dave) Montavon of Dixon; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Richard; one sister, Kathleen Moats; four brothers-in-law; one nephew; and one great-nephew.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the Helmer-Shields Funeral Home in Granville with services at 7 p.m. Deacon John Murphy will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tiskilwa.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
