Walnut man sentenced on stolen vehicle, escape charges

PRINCETON — A Walnut man has been sentenced to serve five and one-half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and attempted escape from Bureau County Jail. On Dec. 19, Steven M. Lasky, 40, was arrested on other offenses and police located keys in his pocket that went to a 1996 Dodge Ram truck. Surveillance video showed Lasky driving the truck. The owner of the vehicle did not give Lasky authority to possess the vehicle.

Lasky was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and was being held in Bureau County Jail. Surveillance video showed Lasky removed an air vent cover from the wall of the jail and crawled into the ventilation system in an attempt to escape jail. Lasky was charged with attempted escape, a Class 3 felony.

Lasky was sentenced on March 15 by Bureau County Judge Marc Bernabei. Lasky received three years for possession of a stolen vehicle and two and one-half years for attempted escape from jail.
