We are still playing around with the weather. We don’t know if there is going to be rain or sun or warm or cold. Some of the morel hunters have had some good luck, while others haven’t found any.
My buddy, Jerry Fisher, said he found 35 and immediately brought them home for the skillet. There were several found in the 4- to 5-inch range, but it hasn’t been as good as previous years. This will probably be the last week for success.
Princeton and Bureau County have many trees that are blooming out. There are many purples and whites throughout our community. I wished they would stay around a little longer, but we probably only have about a week more.
Bureau Creek is producing some good catches of bluegills and crappie. I haven’t heard a report from Mautino’s or Johnson Sauk Trail, but they are probably producing as well.
Turkey season is coming along fine. The only week that I heard was not too good was the first season.
• There is an online category called IFishIllinois in which you can find out info concerning anything you want to know about fishing in Illinois. Locations, gear, bait, or anything. Try it once.
• Another thing I want to call your attention to is that you can get most of your licenses online or by phone. Your fishing license number is 1-888-673-7648. By the way, your boat renewal notices will no longer be mailed. Check your boat to see if it is due.
• In a little more than two weeks, the PHS Sportsman’s Club will head north to Black Bear Lodge to try their luck during a week of fishing. I am especially thrilled this year because we worked it out that all my boys and grandsons will attend. We have never done this before. We hope for a safe trip, decent weather, and hungry fish.
