Prairie Arts Council announces auditions for ‘Deathtrap’

PRINCETON — The Prairie Arts Council will hold auditions for its production of “Deathtrap” at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, and 7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the PAC Theater, 24 Park Ave. East in Princeton.

“Deathtrap” holds the record for the longest-running comedy/thriller on Broadway. Written by Ira Levin, author of “Rosemary’s Baby,” the PAC’s production of “Deathtrap” is presented in conjunction with Homestead Festival weekend and by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

Performances will take place Sept. 6-8.

The play tells the tale of a once-successful playwright, attempting to murder a former student and claim the student’s work as his own. Plot twists and surprises abound in this play-within-a-play production.

When asked about the show, Director Joseph Ennenbach replied that “‘Deathtrap’ is the most cleverly constructed thriller I have ever encountered, with a plot that both shocks the audience and, at times, makes it laugh.”

During auditions, Ennenbach will be looking for two females and three males for lead roles, ages mid-20’s and older.

For questions about the auditions, contact Ennenbach at nnbox@hotmail.com or 815-488-0633. Perusal scripts are available. Any person who wishes to audition but is unavailable that weekend can schedule an alternate date.

Persons with an interest in theater, with or without previous experience, are encouraged to become involved in the show. Volunteers are always needed for stage, set and house crews. To volunteer, or for more information on how you can help, contact PAC on Facebook at Prairie Arts Council or leave a message at 815-875-2787.

Prairie Arts Council programming is funded in part by grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Church Women United.
