Princeton and Spring Valley host National Night Out

Princeton and Spring Valley residents got the chance to learn a little bit more about what their local law enforcement and first responders do Tuesday night during National Night Out.

The nationwide annual event is meant to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing them together under positive circumstances.

In Princeton, the event was held in Solders and Sailors Park. The Princeton Police Explorers grilled hot dogs for attendees and there were various vendors that provided information to parents. Also to see and do was fingerprinting for children, car seat safety checks and static displays of police vehicles, a fire truck, the Illinois Valley Special Response Team unit and Bureau County Emergency Management Agency .

Princeton K9 officers Erik Sorenson and Joel Drozda gave K9 demonstrations to the crowd.
Bureau County K9 officer Mackenzie Kruse and his K9, Palu, were also at the park where Palu enjoyed several scratches and hugs from young visitors.

A bloodmobile was parked for those who wished to donate blood.

In Spring Valley, the event was held in Kirby Park, and also featured static displays from the police department and fire department. The fire department held water fights with the kids. Life Flight helicopter made an appearance around 6:30 p.m. Central K9 Search and Rescue was there and young visitors enjoyed getting acquainted with K9s and hearing about all they can do.

There was plenty of family entertainment, as well, including Coal Black Exotics Reptile display, free swimming at Conveny Pool and a bounce house.

Free food and refreshments were provided by Spring Valley Supermarket, Project Success and Hall Township.
