My wife and I decided to take a trip to Iowa on a recent Saturday that turned out to be very disappointing. Upon our return, we were in no mood to cook any supper, so we decided to eat out.
We both recall our years of dating and early marriage when the best places to go to eat were always over toward the LaSalle-Peru area (largely based on recommendations of folks from our parents’ generation).
Those days are gone. We have so many eateries in the local area now that have absolutely great food to enjoy. Our meal after our trip to Iowa was at the Plantation Grille, where we enjoyed a perfectly done rib eye and a smothered chicken dish that I cannot wait to have again.
We have always enjoyed eating at places like Prime Quarter, Spoons, Ye Olde Underground Inn and the above Plantation Grille. But there are so many more, like the Park Tavern (can be crowded, but really great food) and Kramer’s that have recently been added to our list.
Ethnic food your thing? You won’t find better than Oriental Gardens and Los Ranchitos for something different. For dessert, don’t miss Myrtle’s. Breakfast? The Coffee Cup, of course. A place that has been around like that one just has to be good.
Pizza? Princeton has a bunch of good pizzerias. Do try Piccolo’s in Tiskilwa. It’s worth the drive down. And another out-of-town place you should try is the Feed Store in Malden. It is, by far, my favorite place “out of town.”
Our fast-food restaurants can hold their own as well, so keep them in mind if you need something quick.
No matter what your taste in food may be — quick, casual or special occasion — I think Princeton has so much to offer, you will surely find what you like.
