It was a family affair at the top of Saturday’s Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS.
The nephew and aunt duo of Drew Toohill, 18, of Bloomington (17:54.4) and Mary Toohill, 52, of Davenport, Iowa, (20:49.8) were the top male and female finishers.
Angie Forbeck, 43, of Princeton was the second female finisher in 22:53.7, and her son, Dillion, 18, was the third male finisher in 19:26.9.
The first Walnut finishers were Kane Eastwood, 24, who was second overall in 18:54, and Katie Gutzmer, 50, with a time of 27:07.8.
The event drew 300 participants, including 93 runners/walkers from Walnut alone.
Local age division female winners were Brooke Helms of Walnut (30:52.6) for ages 10 and under, Mara Morton-Rabe of LaMoille (27:29.9) for ages 25-29, Andrea Wiggim of Princeton (50:48.3) for ages 35-39, Loretta Gibson of Walnut (27:08.7) for ages 45-49, Dorie Lange of Walnut (30:56.9) for ages 55-59, Rhonda Peach of Walnut (41:13.5) for ages 60-64 and Linda Carr of Walnut (31:08.2) for 75 and over.
Local age division male winners were Augustus Swanson of Princeton (21:38.7) for ages 10 and under, Brock Loftus of Ohio (19:41.3) for ages 15-19, Jayce King of Walnut (20:01.8) for ages 25-29, Jesse Willstead of Walnut (22:50.7) for ages 30-34, Tim Gonigam of Walnut (27:15.2) for ages 55-59 and Tom Marquis of Princeton (24:23.6) for ages 60-64.
• Bureau Valley 5K canceled: The Bureau Valley Renaissance 5K scheduled for Saturday, July 13, has been canceled due to a low number of registrants, race officials said. There are no plans to try again next year at this time.
• DePue Celebration 5K: The DePue Celebration 5K will take place during the boat races starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 27, starting at the DePue Fire Station. Entry fee is $20 before July 19 and $25 after July 19.

• Mendota Cornapalooza: The Mendota Cornapalooza offers 5K and 10K runs and a 5K walk, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Preregistration starts at 6:30 a.m. at Lake Mendota.
