Mobile brewing venture brainchild of Wyanet woman
WYANET — A new brewing business just rolled into town.
Cows Coffee has been popping up at various locations and events throughout the county and satisfying coffee drinkers alike.
The woman behind the wheels is Katlyn Sanden of Wyanet. While building a career in the local agribusiness field, she found herself wanting more flexibility for her family. So, she began pondering ideas for a business that allowed her to set her own hours and pick and choose when and where she would be open.
With a background strongly rooted in agriculture, she began thinking about the times she and her family traveled to livestock shows around the state and beyond. At these events, there always seemed to be one thing missing — a hot cup of coffee. So, her family started bringing along their coffee pot to the shows, and Sanden would watch people flock to their livestock pen for a good cup of joe.
“I thought, that’s what I could do — bring a coffee truck to the shows,” she said. “So, we came up with Cows Coffee, coffee on wheels, for the livestock shows, and it just kind of exploded into festivals, pop-ups, weddings, fairs and vendor events. … You name it, we can do it.”
Sanden said while it would be neat to open a brick-and-mortar business, she just can’t man it right now.
Being able to take her own business where she wants to go offers her the flexibility her family needs at this stage in their lives.
While she’s been in business only a couple of months, Sanden said the feedback from the community has been “overwhelmingly fantastic.”
“I’m just very grateful everything fell into place for this opportunity to explode,” she said.
As for the coffee she serves, Sanden works closely with specialty roasters who offer high caliber coffee beans, which are roasted locally.
“We work with actual growers and give them a fair price for their coffee,” she said. “We wanted direct farm to cup.”
This is something that’s near and dear to Sanden’s heart, being raised on a farm and now married to a local farmer.
Sanden’s family is also passionate about health and wellness, which came into play when choosing organic, handmade syrups, chocolate sauces and superfood creamers used in her coffee creations. Sanden also offers coconut and almond milks as alternatives to dairy milk. She caters to children with food allergies by offering dairy free ice cream and snacks at select events.
